The dispute originated after an EU probe concluded that Chinese manufacturers benefit from unfair state subsidies, prompting the bloc to propose duties of up to 35.3%. In response, Beijing initiated its own investigations into European dairy and pork exports. While some EU member states, led by France, support the tariffs to protect domestic industries, others, including Germany, have voiced concerns over potential retaliation against their own automotive exports.
